ARM technology is a forthcoming idea that the CPU and GPU can be combined into one unit that handles both. It does not handle either as greatly as two independent cores but for smaller computers such as notebooks works quite well.

The Processor Today
The processor in this day and age is simple amazing. 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6 cores for consumer use.
Each tier of CPU has a use for the average consumer. Simple File Servers can suffice on a single core, but a much more power gaming computer prefers 4, while a video or graphic editing machine requires the power of a hexa core CPU.
On the Commercial or Professional side the possibilities seem endless. Some Super-Computers use up to 200 Cores. While That number steadily increases, competitors are arising.
The competition known as ARM will be discussed at another time.
